Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from her family, she was raised to maturity by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. In her childhood, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. Ford joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she was a poor fit there. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth application she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. She worked on stage regularly, and joined the company's 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy, which she began adding to her set in 1996, quickly gained the attention of her peers.
